Shrewsbury's comeback against Accrington to win 2-1 on the weekend has
virtually guaranteed them a play off spot. They currently lie in sixth
position with a return of 67 points from 43 games and this leaves them four
points clear of eighth placed Peterborough who only have two games left.
Shrewsbury have been steadily climbing up the table
since the turn of the year and have only tasted two league defeats since
Boxing Day. These came in successive games against at Swindon and
surprisingly at home to Bury at the beginning of this month, but since then
they have gone four games unbeaten.
This passage of games started with a draw at Wycombe and then
a home win against fellow play off contenders MK Dons. The Easter period was
followed up with a draw at Chester and then they returned to the Meadow on
Saturday for the win over Accrington.
Shrewsbury's record at their last ever season at the Gay
Meadow has them ranked seventh overall with eleven wins out of twenty-one
games,
with the remaining ten games ending in six draws and four defeats.
Top overall goal scorer for Shrewsbury is striker Michael
Symes with 13 goals this season but midfielder Ben Davies takes this honour in league
games with 11 goals this season compared to Symes who is on 9. |
