Wrexham v

Bristol Rovers

Saturday 28 October 2006

Kick Off @ 15:00

The Match

It does not matter how we do it or how the goal is scored but Wrexham are in a desperate need of a win.

The Pirates

Bristol Rovers arrive at the Racecourse without a defeat in their last four games although they would have been disappointed with the goalless draw at home to bottom placed Macclesfield Town, with the Silkmen playing the last fifteen minutes with only ten men.

This recent run of form has resulted in the Pirates climbing from fourth from bottom to their present 14th position with a return of 19 points from 15 games. Their only win so far on their travels came in their last outing, a 2-1 win at fifth placed Notts County although the Pirates have only come from behind once this season compared to the six games they have lost after conceding the first goal of the game.

Top goal scorer is striker Richard Walker and he is confident that he has turned the corner after scoring six goals so far and is on target to at least match his 21 goals last season. Richard Walker joined the Pirates from Oxford for the start of the 2004 season, scoring 34 goals in 74 league starts, and was voted the Supporters' Player of the Season after playing in every game.

Paul TrollopeManager Paul Trollope is in his first managerial job and has been in charge at the Memorial Ground since September 2005. The former Wales international ended his career at Bristol Rovers with his biggest move coming in November 1997 when he joined Fulham from Crystal Palace in a £600,000 move.

Slack defending from Wrexham allowed the Pirates to steal the points as Richard Walker scored the equaliser in the 88th minute and then the winner in the third minute of injury time.

League Form Guide

Team Last 5 Games League Position Form Position Last Win
Wrexham WLLLL 20th 21st 5 games
Rovers WLWWD 14th 13th 2 games

With 3 wins in their last five league games, Rovers' form has picked up in the last month. The first win was at home to Hereford courtesy of a Richard Walker brace but the Pirates returned back from Chester empty handed after a 2-0 defeat. This was followed up with a single goal home win over Boston with Richard Walker again on target and he again scored in the 2-1 win at Notts County, Rovers' only away win of the season, before the Pirates returned home to a goalless draw against Macclesfield.

Wrexham's form is nothing but disastrous at the moment with the only win in the last five games coming at home to Hereford but since then four straight defeats have been recorded in the league against Rochdale, Hartlepool, MK Dons and Mansfield.
