Our second home game in four days sees us entertain
a Wycombe side that are on the fringe of the play off positions.
The 1-0 defeat against Shrewsbury on the weekend means we
are on a run of four straight defeats and have gone three games without scoring at home.
Wycombe, on the other hand, will arrive in
high spirits after picking up draws against league leaders MK Dons and at
second placed Chester in their last two games.
Wycombe showed good resilience in both games as they
came from behind on both occasions to pick up a point that leaves the Chairboys in ninth position with a return of 22 points from 14 games.
Wycombe have had a mixed start to the new season which
is in complete contrast to their two previous attempts when the
Chairboys tailed off dramatically following a good start to the season.
This season did start off slowly but a run of only one
defeat in their last five games has meant Wycombe have now stabilised a
few points adrift of the final play off spot.
Wycombe have the second best home record in the league
but away from Adams Park is a different story with their last victory on
their travels coming at the end of September when they defeated bottom
placed Lincoln an Sincil Bank.
Paul Lambert is now in his second season as manager of
Wycombe and has had personnel problems with last season's top scorer
Jermaine Easter.
Easter had netted 24 times in all competitions last
season and even forced himself into the Wales international squad but he
has only made a handful of appearances this season before joining
Plymouth in a loan deal towards the end of last month.
Scott McGleish has taken on Easter's goal scoring
antics so far this season with six goals already and the former
Northampton striker has scored 11 goals in 28 league appearances since
his move from Sixfields at the beginning of the year.
Recent Encounters:
Wycombe held the upper hand on us last season with the
last match at the Racecourse ending up in a comfortable 2-0 win for the
visitors.
Michael Williamson and Jermaine Easter did the damage
either side of half time and Mark Jones cancelled out an early goal from
the now departed Tommy Mooney when the sides met at Adams Park on the
opening day of last season.
Our overall record sees Wycombe out in front with nine
wins compared to our six and there have been nine draws in the
twenty-four games between the two sides.
Team News:
Silvio Spann is available after serving out his one
match ban against Shrewsbury on the weekend but winger Michael Carvill
is ruled out after picking up a dead leg in the same game.
Danny Williams and Mark Jones appear to be long term
victims with back injuries whilst Juan Uagrte and Connell Murtagh are
not yet match fit despite returning to training.
Wycombe also have defender David McCracken back
following suspension and Frank Fielding is expected to continue in goal
despite the capture of Rab Douglas from Leicester last week.
Elsewhere in League Two:
For the second round of matches in succession, the
rest of league get a head start on us with new Lincoln manager,
Peter Jackson, looking to collect his first points in charge of the Imps
when they entertain a Chesterfield side who have dropped off the pace
since their 4-0 win at the Racecourse at the beginning of October.
Mansfield scored five in their demolition of
Macclesfield on the weekend but they travel to third placed Hereford who
also recorded five at home to Darlington.
League leaders MK Dons entertain Grimsby whilst second
placed Chester travel to Bradford who are yet to acclimatise to life in
League Two. |
