Wrexham have a welcome break from League
football in what is likely to be Brian Carey's last game in charge as we
travel to Peterborough United in the first round proper of the FA Cup.
Darren Ferguson and his assistant, Kevin Russell, do not need any
introductions to Wrexham fans and it is difficult to ignore the irony of
the situation as Ferguson assisted Brian Carey in
his first game in charge at Swindon back in January.
Peterborough's come back against Dagenham at London
Road in midweek extended their unbeaten run in the league to nine games
and the Posh climbed into third position in the process.
Peterborough have gradually climbed up the table
following an indifferent start to the season and currently boast one of the best home
records in the league with five wins and only one defeat in the league
at London Road so far this season.
Aaron McLean is top scorer for Ferguson's outfit and
his two late goals in midweek took his tally to six for the season.
McLean arrived at London Road at the beginning of
January in a £150,000 move from Grays Athletic after spending a couple
of months on loan prior to his move and is so far averaging a goal every
other game for Peterborough.
Recent Encounters:
The clubs have only met in the Cup on three occasions
with all ties coming during the 1990s.
Peterborough won 1-0 in 1996 at London Road but
Wrexham got revenge the following season when Kevin Russell, Posh's now
assistant manager, scored twice in our 4-2 win en route to the quarter
finals that season.
The other game came in the following season when Dave Brammer scored the only goal of the game late on at the Racecourse.
Team News:
There are no fresh injury worries from Wednesday night
and the on loan pairing of Robbie Garrett and Matty Collins have been
given permission to play in the FA Cup by their parent clubs.
Michael Carvill will have a fitness test on his dead
but Danny Williams, Mark Jones and Juan Ugarte are again unavailable,
and we will be without a substitute keeper for the third game in
succession as Michael Jones has failed to recover from his hip problem.
Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson is set to name an
unchanged squad. Winger Josh Low is back from a hamstring injury
but was not even on the bench in midweek while Micah Hyde was among the
substitutes.
