Match Preview

The only way is up now for Wrexham after no game last weekend left us bottom of the Football League by virtue of scoring less goals than Grimsby.

Scoring has been a problem so far with only three goals in our opening four league games with Michael Proctor scoring two and his strike partner Neil Roberts grabbing the other.

There has been a lot of debate recently about who should be the front pairing after Eifion Williams has impressed whilst coming off the bench and Brian Carey also has to make a decision in midfield with Silvio Spann now expected to be available in midfield.

Rotherham arrive at the Racecourse following a mixed start to the season but their 2-0 home defeat to early pace setters, Darlington, last weekend has left the Millers in thirteenth position with six points from the opening five games.

Although we currently lie bottom of the table, a win by three goals will see us climb above Rotherham on goal difference and this goes to show how irrelevant the league table is at this stage of the season.

Rotherham have drawn their two away games so far this season which started with a goalless draw at Hereford on the opening day of the season and a point was collected at Stockport with a 2-2 draw.

The only league win so far is a 3-1 home victory over Peterborough with the other games this season ending in a draw at home to Chester.

Manager Mark Robins admitted his side have to learn from their first defeat of the season against Darlington and urged his players to get more physical as they adjust to life in League Two following their relegation last season.

The Millers started the last campaign on minus ten points after entering a CVA before the start of the season and although they enjoyed a positive start, they could not continue with this form and ended going down long before the final game.

Our last victory over Rotherham was over ten years ago but we have only played them three times since and these all came in the 2000/01 season.

The first encounter was in the league but Rotherham left the Racecourse with a 3-1 win and returned two months later in November to knock us out of the FA Cup with the only goal of the game coming just before half time.

The league game at Millmoor ended up with Rotherham completing the treble with a comfortable 2-0 victory.

Our overall record against Rotherham in the league sees us ahead on 32 wins compared to the Millers who are ten behind on 22 and there has been 16 draws between the sides in the 70 games played.

Team News:

Despite having last weekend off, Brian Carey has concerns over Danny Williams in midfield and Shaun Pejic in defence.

Williams has picked up a back injury and Pejic is struggling with a calf strain but Mark Jones has returned to training, despite withdrawing from the Wales squad due to illness on Monday.

Steve Evans and Chris Llewellyn are back from international duty with Wales and Silvio Spann may now make the bench after playing for the reserves last Monday.

Rotherham new boys Jamie Annerson and Bruce Dyer will go straight into their squad to face Wrexham.

Anderson replaces keeper Steven Cann, who suffered a dislocated shoulder in training and could be sidelined for around four months.

Elsewhere in League Two:

Early league leaders Darlington will be looking to maintain their position at the top of the table when they entertain Lincoln and Chesterfield, who are second on goal difference, travel to Mansfield who are only one point better off than us so far this season.

We are joined on three points with Grimsby and the Mariners face one of the pre-season favourites, Stockport, who have had a mixed start to the campaign.

Morecambe have made a strong start to their debut season in League Two are currently occupy sixth spot but they face a difficult game when they entertain undefeated Hereford who are only a position behind Sammy McIlroy's side.
