Match Preview

After suffering three successive defeats in the league, we have the quick opportunity to put these results behind us with a home game against Macclesfield Town in the rearranged first round match of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

The game was originally scheduled for two weeks ago but was called off due to international call ups and the reward for the winners is a second round tie at home to Stockport County.

Macclesfield have made an average start to the season and the 2-1 defeat at home to Wycombe Wanderers on the weekend has left the Silkmen in thirteenth position with seven points from their six games.

This was their first defeat in the league but they have only managed one win so far with the other four games ending up in draws.

The solitary win was a surprising 1-0 victory at Hereford United ten days ago with top scorer, Francis Green, grabbing his fourth goal of the season with eight minutes left.

As well as this victory away from Moss Rose, Macclesfield have recorded an encouraging 1-1 draw at Bradford and their other away game also ended 1-1 at Grimsby.

Macclesfield's start is in complete contrast to last season when they had to wait until November for their first league victory.

By this time, Paul Ince had replaced Brian Horton as manager and he somehow steered the Silkmen to safety despite them only having only five points when he arrived in October.

Ince departed for the MK Dons in the summer but the SIlkmen moved quickly to replace him with the appointment of Ian Brightwell in a matter of days and he was quick to appoint former Scotland international, Asa Harford, as his assistant.

Brightwell was reserve team manager at Moss Rose and played the last of his 460+ league appearances for the Silkmen in October 2006. He was also caretaker manager before Ince succeeded Brian Horton last season.

Recent Encounters:

We are without a win against the Silkmen in five games and Macclesfield got the better of us last season with a 2-0 victory at Moss Rose with the match at the Racecourse ending goalless.

The club's have only met eight times in the league with both teams on three wins each and the other two ended in draws.

Team News:

Mark Jones has been ruled out with the back injury that forced him out at half time in the 1-0 defeat to Rotherham on the weekend.

Danny Williams also missed the game with a back injury and he is not being risked again but manager, Brian Carey, has added three players - Josh Johnson, Mike Williams and Marc Williams - to bolster Saturday's squad.

Macclesfield manager, Ian Brightwell, has revealed that Luke Dimech, Richard Edghill, Kevin McIntyre and Adam Murray all picked up knocks during the 2-1 home defeat to Wycombe and all are expected to be ruled out.

In addition to this, top scorer Francis Green and Terry Dunfield are also doubtful after picking up injuries in training on Monday.

Please note that this game kicks off at 7:15 pm and all Wrexham fans are in the Yale Stand for this match.
