Swansea match in doubt after Wales call-ups

Today's Club Call in the story "Four Swans win international call-ups" reports that Wrexham's league encounter with Swansea City at the Vetch Field on March 24th looks likely to be postponed due to international call-ups.

Swansea's Roger Freestone has been called up into Mark Hughes' senior squad for Wales' forthcoming games against Armenia and Ukraine, while Wrexham's David Walsh and Danny Williams and Swansea's Lee Jenkins and Stuart Roberts have all been named in the Under-21 squad.

In addition, Wrexham's Carlos Edwards and Dennis Lawrence will be away on intenrational duty with Trinidad & Tobago in Costa Rica that weekend, and Swansea striker Giovanni Savarese will be on duty for Venezuela against Argentina.

Farrell: We've got a very real chance

Tonight's Evening Leader in the story "Reds eye play-offs" quotes club director Geoff Farrell as saying after the Robins fantastic 3-2 victory at Cambridge United on Saturday: "We're in a rich vein of form and we now have to keep our feet on the ground and take each game as it comes. But we've got 12 games left and we feel we've got a very real chance of sneaking into play-off contention. And we want to go up...".

According to Ananova Wrexham's ice-cool boss Brian Flynn is not getting carried away with promotion talk just yet. Ananova quotes him as saying: "That's 50 points now and safety, but I'm not starting to talk about the play-offs. We've won four on the trot and all we must concentrate on is keeping that going and seeing what happens".

Wrexham are eight points off a play-off place with a game in hand over sixth-placed Stoke.

Barnsley FC's official web site today reports in the story "Marriott makes move" that former Wrexham favourite Andy Marriott has joined the First Division club until the end of the season.

Barnsley boss Nigel Spackman has added the ex-Robins glovesman to his squad to bring in competition for Kevin Miller following the shock retirement of David Watson last week.

Speaking exclusively on Barnsley's web site Marriott said: "The first thing that I knew about it was this morning. I got asked by Bobby Saxton at Sunderland whether I'd be interested in coming down here and that was the first I’d heard about it. There'd been another couple of clubs chasing me and Barnsley hadn't been mentioned. It's a permanent deal up until the end of the season and then we said we’d see how things go and see what the situation was at the end of the season. I went on loan for a couple of months to Wigan and I’ve only been back now for two weeks. I hadn’t been involved in the first team at Sunderland this season and sat on the bench on six or seven occasions. This was the last year of my contract so it was important to get something sorted out. The gaffer's been good enough to give me the opportunity to come here and stake a claim for a position in the team. I haven’t really had the chance to have a look around yet but came here during the season Sunderland got promoted and was impressed. I've had a look at the ground and I know what it's like, the academy looks a great set-up. It's probably the envy of a lot of Premier League clubs. I'm hoping to come in and push Kevin, I know he's been playing well and this is an opportunity to come in and put some pressure on him.  The competition will be good for him and good for me".
