WREXHAM
striker Chris Armstrong is in line to step up his fitness battle in the reserves
at Carlisle United today.
The former Spurs and Bolton man is desperately short of match practice and was
due to have played a reserve team game at Macclesfield last Wednesday before
going down with flu-like symptoms.
But assistant manager Kevin Russell said it was a case of better late than never
for Armstrong, who has played relatively little football since recovering from
Achilles tendon trouble.
"We've not had many games of late and Chris is now at a stage where he needs to
push on," he said. "And the same could be said of one or two others, like Steve
Roberts, Matty Crowell and Shaun Holmes.
"But the enforced rest means that we have a relatively clean bill of health
ahead of Saturday and the lads have worked very hard in training over the past
week or so."
The only absentee is central defender Craig Morgan, who picked up an Achilles
tendon strain last Friday.
He has already been ruled out of Saturday's home match against Peterborough
United and could be out for another couple of weeks.
