Carey: We got it right after 'awful' first-half display

WREXHAM
captain Brian Carey, whose second-half goal set the Dragons on the road to a
much-needed win, claimed that the three hard-won points were nothing less than
the Dragons deserved.
"It wasn't pretty but it was a very gritty performance today and makes up for
recent games when we feel we've played well without getting what we really
deserved," he said.
"It must have been pretty awful to watch but we had a bit of a gale in our faces
in the first half. In the second we were a bit more positive and in the end
we've come out of it with the win, which is all that counts in the end.
"We had a bit more quality after the break, we got some decent crosses into the
box and we turned them a bit more. It was something of a grind but we got there
in the end.
"I was pleased to score, but the most important thing was to win the match."
The big Irishman said Saturday's success, which keeps Wrexham on the fringe of
the promotion play-off places was a morale-booster ahead of the Christmas
programme.
He also welcomed the FAW Premier Cup draw which sees the Racecourse side visit
Total Network Solutions in next month's quarter-final. TNS are currently top of
the Welsh Premiership and Carey said: "They are doing quite well from what I
hear. They are a full-time outfit and a strong side and it should be a good game
for us."
Wrexham are defending the BBC Wales sponsored-trophy they won last season and
the £100,000 prize money is another big incentive for the club.
And Carey added: "If we keep on playing the way we have been for the past few
weeks, there should be nothing to fear. We will all be looking forward to the
game." n CAERSWS are also savouring the prospect of home FAW Premier Cup ties
with Nationwide League opposition following the quarter-final draw.
They, like Mitsubishi Welsh Premier leaders TNS, have been paired at home with
the professional opposition when they entertain Brian Flynn's Swansea City at
the Recreation Ground.
Rhyl, however, have the best chance of progressing to the lucrative semi-finals
after being drawn at home to Welsh Premier strugglers Barry Town.
Newport County, of the Dr Martens League, take on First Division Cardiff City in
the other tie.
The games will be played on either Tuesday or Wednesday, January 27 and 28.
