STOCKPORT
County boss Sammy McIlroy knows his side will have his work cut out at home to
Wrexham on Boxing Day.
But one thing is for sure, the former Northern Ireland manager desperately wants
a victory from his players as The Hatters try and battle out of the depths of
the division.
And on the evidence of County and Wrexham's nine goal thriller earlier in the
season, there promises to be plenty of goals and entertainment for the Edgeley
Park faithful.
McIlroy's men emerged 5-4 victors on November 5, winning in extra time in their
LDV Vans trophy clash on their Silver goal rule.
SAMMY McIlroy has completed the signing of
full-back Danny Jackman and further strengthened Stockport's defence by
extending the loan deal of Matt Heath. |
However, McIlroy wants a different
pattern to emerge as County go in search of three points which would surely cure
any Christmas hangover."I hope its not like that game when we play Wrexham
again" admitted McIlroy, who is adamant his team must bounce back from their
"set back" of losing to Bristol at the weekend.
"We made a silly mistake against Bristol on Saturday and that's something we've
worked on putting right in training.
Tough
"Wrexham will be a very, very tough game for us and we want to win after
Saturday's set back."
But McIlroy might have to re-assemble his troops with midfielder Jim Goodwin and
new £70,000 signing Danny Jackman, the former Aston Villa left back, both
suffering from a mysterious virus.
Both players were sent home early from training this week in order to recover
from the Wrexham match.
"We've got a couple of virus problems and Jim and Danny were sent home to
recover," added McIlroy. "We will make a late decision on them both."
