Harsh to punish the people who least deserve it

Robbie SavageTOUGH times for Wrexham, who go into administration tomorrow and face the immediate punishment of a 10-point deduction, which is going to have the biggest impact on those least to blame for the club's current predicament.

That's not fair. Throughout the whole sorry mess, which is not something that's happened overnight but seems to be down to several years of mismanagement, the one group of people at the club who have been performing consistently well are boss Denis Smith and his players.

As if what was happening off the field was not enough to contend with, the players have coped with a long injury list and keep on producing results, the latest of which came against Chester in the LDV Vans Trophy competition on Tuesday.

I was delighted when I heard the score - for obvious reasons - and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed they get a home tie when the semi-final draw is made on Saturday morning.

By then, of course, we'll know the outcome of another vitally important game, tomorrow ' s FA Cup second-round match at Scunthorpe.

I'll be in London but you can be sure I'll be watching the game on Sky and hoping that the lads can do it again.

Given everything that's happening around the Racecourse, perhaps the gods will smile on them at Scunthorpe and that a place in the third round is rewarded with a real money-spinner against the likes of Manchester United or Chelsea away.

That would be just the boost the club needs in administration, it would be a fantastic bonus for the loyal fans and

I'm sure the players would also settle for the chance to play in front of a massive crowd, knowing everyone there was sympathetic to their plight.

We can but hope.
