Brian CareyThe Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) has pledged to support the Wrexham players during the club's current financial crisis.

With the club's bank account frozen, the players received only part of their salary this month from gate receipts.

Said PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor: "We have been dealing with this kind of situation for the last three years with a lot of clubs.

"Wrexham are a club we have helped and will continue to help."

The League One club has estimated debts for up to £5m, and the Inland Revenue has lodged a petition to wind up the club as a result of a £800,000 unpaid tax bill.

A group of Wrexham fans met with Wrexham chairman Alex Hamilton on Tuesday with a view of buying his 78% majority share.

Officials from the PFA will continue to monitor the situation over the players' wages with Wrexham's representative Brian Carey.
