Peter JonesTHE Supporters Trust that made a bid for Wrexham Football Club said they expect owner Alex Hamilton to reject their offer today.

But Pete Jones, who sits on the board of the Wrexham Supporters Trust, said the offer was just their opening gambit and he expects further bids to be made to Hamilton.

The Trust made their offer on Monday and Mr Hamilton is said to have promised them an answer by today.

Mr Hamilton has previously said he would walk away from the club for £2.8m.

Mr Jones said, "We would like to think he is interested in selling. If he's not the question is, 'Where do we go from there.'

"If we didn't think he would sell then we wouldn't be taking a bid to him."

Mr Jones and others at the club believe Hamilton must sell if Wrexham is to have any hope of seeing of a High Court application by the Inland Revenue to wind-up the club.

The winding-up order could result in the club going into administration or liquidation.

Should the club go into administration it would have 10 points deducted from its total in League One and creditors would have to be paid a proportion of what they are owed.

Liquidation would mean the end of Wrexham Football Club, with its assets sold off to pay creditors.

Mr Jones said only by demonstrating to the court that the club was moving forward under new ownership could they prevent the winding-up order being granted.

Mr Hamilton owns the freehold to Wrexham's Racecourse home and has a 78% shareholding in the club and reportedly wants a valuation of his interests before making a decision on whether to sell.

Mr Jones, who says the Trust has a substantial backer, said, "We are trying to find ways of putting the hearing back."
