The trust want to buy Mr Hamilton’s 78 per cent shareholding in the club and also The Racecourse ground with the help of unnamed partners.

Mr Hamilton said he would consider the proposal and is likely to hold further talks in the next few days.

Now Rob Griffiths, from the trust, has appealed to fans to focus entirely on helping the trust with is buy-out plans.

He said Mr Hamilton had alleged at Monday’s meeting that mail had been stolen from his mailbox and his property damaged during a recent fans’ demonstration outside his Cheshire home.

Mr Griffiths said: “We would condemn any illegal or criminal activity if it did happen and would urge the fans to get behind our proposal to safeguard the club.

“We don’t know what happened and we don’t know the people who allegedly did this, but we would ask all fans to get behind us and focus solely on saving the club.

“It is vital that fans come to the next home game against Bristol City on November 20. It is the only home game for the rest of November and the gate receipts will be vital to keep the club going throughout the month.”
