Stay up and Dragons will be team of the year

THERE seems to be an air of optimism at Wrexham this week despite the fact they were knocked out of the FA Cup and lost 10 points.

It seems the move into administration has prompted interest from several potential buyers. While it's too early to say that the worst is over, there is certainly some light at the end of the tunnel if owner Alex Hamilton is ready to walk away from the club.

Added to that, Denis Smith's men picked up an important three points on Tuesday to begin their fight for League One survival. If they do manage to avoid relegation then, regardless of what the likes of Chelsea or Arsenal achieve between now and the end of May, I believe Wrexham should be named team of the season.

I understand the Dragons are set to appeal against the 10-point deduction but, having failed in my bid for a common-sense resolution to the red card I got in the game against Northern Ireland, I'm not convinced they will be successful.

But it's heartening to know that there are fans willing to stump up the cash to fund an appeal and if it's not going to cost the club anything, then it's worth a try.

Who knows, Wrexham might even win their case and the club could suddenly find themselves back in the race for the play-off places.
