Crisis-hit Reds in talks with advisers

11/11/04

David Acland of Begbies TraynorCLUB chiefs have had a series of meetings with advisors this week to discuss ways of saving Wrexham FC.

Director David Bennett told the Leader meetings were due to be held, and added: “We are listening to advice and are keen to start making decisions on the future of the club.

“We are taking advice from various advisors, and we will decide what to do next once we have considered that advice.”

Referring to next week’s High Court petition to wind up the club and controversial club owner Alex Hamilton’s latest rejection of a bid by the Wrexham Supporters' Trust to buy the club and ground, Mr Bennett said: “What we can’t do is wait for him to decide whether to accept bids. Time is running out and we need to start moving with our attempts to safeguard the club.”

Asked about rumours that the club could go into voluntary administration very soon in an attempt to stave off liquidation, he said: “I would say that is terrace talk but I appreciate supporters are concerned. Nothing can be ruled in or out and we will be guided by the advice from our advisors.

“What I can assure supporters is that we are working as hard as we can to find a solution and are taking advice right now on how to safeguard the club.”

He added that an insolvency practitioner had visited the club again to give the advice to the directors.

The insolvency practitioner was brought into the club after Wrexham FC’s bank account was frozen by bank bosses.

The account was seized because bank bosses were concerned about the winding up petition set to be heard in the High Court a week tomorrow.

That petition has been lodged by the Inland Revenue over an unpaid £900,000 tax bill.
