A message from Hamilton

17/11/04

Hamilton HorrorsCONTROVERSIAL club owner Alex Hamilton will continue to push ahead with his plans to move Wrexham FC from The Racecourse site, according to club director David Bennett.

Shortly after announcing that the directors had decided to start the process to take the club into administration, Mr Bennett said he had received a message from Mr Hamilton.

He said: "Apparently Mr Hamilton has said he is sorry the club is going into administration and has said he will work with the administrators. He has also said he will arrange an extraordinary general meeting where he will get himself back on the board and sack myself and David Griffiths. And apparently he has said he will still go ahead with his plans to move the club elsewhere and use the sale of The Racecourse to pay off the debtors."

Mr Bennett said it was possible for Mr Hamilton to get himself back on the board because he was still the majority shareholder. He resigned the position after a row with Mr Bennett and Mr Griffiths.

Mr Hamilton has become a hate figure among some fans after revealing that he wanted to use The Racecourse ground for retail or housing development. He has suggested that moving the club to a new stadium or ground-sharing with Chester City was the way forward.
