Nation's fans to wear red in support
18 November 2004
THE
plight of Wrexham FC will be taken up by football fans all over the country on
Saturday.
Club bosses are urging football fans to attend Saturday's clash at The
Racecourse against Bristol City, in their thousands.
A huge crowd is vital for the club, as it is the only home league game left and
with the club running on a hand to mouth basis, a large attendance would help
meet players' wages and running costs.
Brighton fans, who have given incredible support to Wrexham FC's plight, are
helping spread the message by dubbing Saturday Wear Red for Wrexham Day.
Wrexham Supporters Trust member, Lindsay Jones, said the Brighton fans had
contacted all 92 Football League clubs to outline the financial crisis at The
Racecourse and urged the clubs' fans to wear an item of red clothing to show
solidarity with Wrexham FC's plight.
Mr Jones said: "The massive support we have received from fans all over the
country, and in particular Brighton, makes me feel quite humble. This again
shows that football clubs are only safe in the hands of football fans. It is the
supporters who have the best interests of the clubs at heart."
