Lennie's call for solidarity

19 November 2004

Lennie LawrenceLENNIE Lawrence has urged Cardiff City fans to put aside any petty rivalry and show their support for crisis- stricken Wrexham.

Wrexham were this week handed a fortnight's stay of execution from a winding up order on £1m in unpaid tax, with owner Alex Hamilton seemingly intent on selling the Racecourse to developers.

Football fans all over Britain have taken note of Wrexham's plight and in a show of solidarity plan to stand up for short period after kick off at tomorrow's games, wearing something red or holding a red card.

Given that City are playing tonight that chance will pass them by, but with the BSkyB's cameras at Ninian Park it is the perfect opportunity for Bluebirds' fans to show their support.

"It might be a long way away, but they are Welsh and obviously we support them," said Lawrence.

"I have been there, been in that scenario, and I'm sure we would do whatever we could to help them, but we are certainly with them in spirit.

"I don't know whether our fans are going to do anything tonight, but I think the situation is bigger than a local rivalry because this is serious for Wrexham.

"The seriousness of the situation should transcend any rivalry."
