A BUSINESSMAN was this morning trying to get
in touch with Wrexham FC’s controversial owner as he tried to salvage his
takeover bid.
Andy Smith said he has been taken completely by surprise by comments from Alex
Hamilton saying talks involving the Surrey-based businessman had stalled.
Mr Hamilton also claimed that Mr Smith had failed to hand over a 10 per cent
deposit agreed as part of the sale of The Racecourse and club.
Mr Hamilton this weekend claimed the club will be moving from The Racecourse
stadium because talks with potential buyers have stalled.
He said he will carry on with his plans to evict the club in July and use the
Mold Road site for development, and he has suggested a new home at the former
Brymbo Steelworks is on the cards.
But his claims contradict Mr Smith, owner of the United Plot Owners Association
who is leading a consortium to buy the club.
This morning he said he believed a deal was in the process of being made.
Mr Hamilton claimed that Mr Smith appeared to be uninterested in buying the
club.
But Mr Smith said: “That’s news to me. In fact I was planning to fly up there
tomorrow to meet Mr Hamilton and our lawyers were planning to meet.”
