Legal cloud over Reds' sale

22 December 2004

Wrexham FC Administrator Steve Williams

WREXHAM FC's administrator says he cannot comment on a claim that a legal technicality is preventing a buyout deal being struck.

Surrey businessman Andy Smith is confident a deal could be made soon although he has said certain legal issues had to be ironed out first.

Although owner Alex Hamilton is also hopeful about Mr Smith's bid, he has since said the fact that former chairman Mark Guterman has frozen his assets involving Wrexham FC is holding up the talks.

Mr Guterman has denied the claim and his representatives say talks are being held over the freezing order.

The club's administrator Steve Williams said he couldn't comment on the claim.

"It is litigation which I am unaware of," he said.

Mr Williams' main role is to agree a consensual sale for the club which is to the satisfaction of all parties, including the creditors and Mr Hamilton.
