Hitch in Smith's bid to buy Reds

24 December 2004

Andy Smith's plans to buy the club and the ground have been delayed until after Christmas due to legal wrangles

A PRE-Christmas deal to buy Wrexham FC is on hold due to ongoing legal wrangles.

The stall in Surrey businessman Andy Smith’s bid to take control of the club and ground are thought to be down to legal hitches.

Mr Smith told the Leader earlier this week he was confident his bid would be successful, hopefully before Christmas, but this now looks unlikely.

The hold-up is believed to lie with a High Court injunction obtained by former chairman Mark Guterman, restricting Mr Hamilton’s ability to negotiate a sale, although reports are suggesting Mr Guterman has told the club’s administrators he would not stand in the way of any deal.

Mr Hamilton is now believed to have gone away on holiday for a month, raising fears that a deal will be further postponed.
