Still no sign of a Fairy Godmother

Dave BennettWREXHAM FC bosses have conceded that the club will more than likely go into administration on Friday.

But director Dave Bennett remains upbeat about its future, revealing today that he is already working on plans to get the club out of administration as soon as possible.

Mr Bennett, who, along with fellow director David Griffiths, received a hero’s welcome from fans at the last home game against Bristol City for all the work they have been doing to save The Reds, said the club would probably go into administration at the High Court in Manchester on Friday.

He said: “Unless someone comes with hard cash right now I would say administration will happen on Friday. If there are investors out there interested we would like to here from them, but we have spoken to our advisers and solicitors and it now looks likely administration is coming.

“But I want the supporters to know we are already drawing up funding plans to get the club back out of administration as soon as possible. We are still working hard to guarantee the future of this club.

“We are already speaking to the administrators, and although we will step down when we go into administration, we will still be available to give advice and background information.”

Mr Bennett and Mr Griffiths were hopeful that consortiums which have indicated they were interested in buying The Reds would have shown the colour of their money by now.

That has not happened, and he added he knew nothing about an apparent £10 million offer from a major housebuilder.

Controversial club owner Alex Hamilton claimed a £10 million bid for The Racecourse ground was on the table.

The deal would see the club lose its beloved Mold Road home but benefit from the deal to the tune of £4 million.

But Mr Bennett said he knew nothing about the deal.

The club owes £900,000 to the Inland Revenue, while Mr Hamilton has turned down two bids by Wrexham Supporters’ Trust to buy the club.

The club will be put into administration on Friday to avoid being wound up.

Wrexham fans driving to tonight’s LDV Vans Trophy clash with Chester should use the Cattlemarket Car Park, near the Saunders Honda Stadium.

With thousands of supporters expected at the game against their local rivals, a Chester City spokesman said Reds fans should enter the car park via Bumpers Lane and exit via Sovereign Way, which will take them on to the road to Queensferry. The spokesman said parking in the car park would cost £3.
