Juan signs a short term deal to stay at Racecourse

Juan UgarteDESPITE Wrexham's injury problems boss Denis Smith does have two strikers available for the big derby with local rivals Chester City.

Juan Ugarte has now signed a contract to stay at the Racecourse until the end of the season and Hector Sam is free to play as Wrexham have appealed against his sending off at Huddersfield Town on Saturday. Sam, just three minutes after coming on as substitute, was shown a straight red card by referee Paul Danson for an alleged stamping offence.

But Smith yesterday submitted an appeal against the automatic three-match ban after seeing the incident on video and hopes Danson changes his mind.

"We've appealed and Hector is allowed to keep playing until they look at it," said Smith.

"There's no reason why the referee won't change his mind because you can tell it wasn't deliberate, Hector just stepped over him. Hopefully Hector will get off."

Smith was delighted to have secured the services of Ugarte on a more permanent basis. The Spaniard had originally been non-contract terms but Smith has been able to sign him until the end of the season with financial help from outside the club.

"Juan's attitude and work rate has been first class and we'd love him to get a goal," added Smith.
