Smith blows his top over decisions

Denis SmithDENIS SMITH was today fuming with referee Paul Mellin after watching a video nasty of his side's 2-1 defeat at Boston on Saturday.

The Wrexham boss (pictured above) took two controversial decisions in his stride at York Street but he blew his top at home yesterday.

"The decisions by the referee and linesman have cost us three points," fumed Smith, who complained that Julian Joachim was offside for his first goal and that Wrexham should have had a penalty when home keeper, Michel Kuipers pulled down goalscorer Lee McEvilly in the box.

"I was calm on Saturday but when I watched it yesterday at home, I was furious. I spoke to the referee at half-time and full time about the incidents and he said that if they had made a mistake, he would ring me and apologise.

"I'm still waiting for a call. The linesman's made a bad decision because Joachim was definitely offside. I gave Dean Bennett a rollicking because I thought he'd played him so I'll have to apologise to Dean today.

"And their keeper has pulled down Lee McEvilly. It was a stonewall penalty-

"I know I'm not going to get the three points back for us because I accept that mistakes do happen.

"But if the authorities want us to communicate with the officials then you expect it to be two-way and that's why I'm annoyed that the referee hasn't rang me to apologise."

McEvilly bruised his thigh in the penalty incident and hasn't trained this week. Skipper Darren Ferguson is also struggling with a knee injury but Smith says they should both be okay for Tuesday night's League Two clash with Mansfield at The Racecourse.
