Traffic fears over derby match
27 December 2005
FANS
from derby rivals Chester City and Wrexham are being urged to walk to tomorrow's
match if possible.
Police are worried about major congestion problems in the Sealand Road area of
the city before the noon kick-off and again after the match ends.
Football fans in their thousands will be mixing with bargain-hunting shoppers at
the Greyhound Retail Park and there is potential for traffic chaos.
There will be parking restrictions in Sealand Road and in Bumpers Lane, home to
Chester City's Saunders Honda Stadium.
Police say once-the stadium car park is full, alternative parking will be in
short supply. "It is therefore requested that members of the public set off
early to find a parking space and then make their way to the stadium on foot
wherever possible," said police spokesman Jon Ratcliffe.
"Supporters are advised also to check the local radio stations for traffic
updates."
Meanwhile, scores of police officers aim to ensure hooligans do not spoil the
day for others.
