New move in bid to secure Reds' future
28 December 2005
THE
man hoping to save Wrexham Football Club has announced he is currently
negotiating a land deal he believes will help secure its long term future.
Local businessman Neville Dickens and his business partner Geoff Moss are "in
the early stages" of a development deal he believes will help secure the future
of the cash-strapped Reds.
Mr Dickens and Mr Moss, along with their backers, have been hoping to buy the
football club, which is still in administration, from current owner Alex
Hamilton.
Mr Dickens said: "Geoff Moss, myself and a local developer are in negotiations
to purchase part of Railtrack's land on Crispin Lane. It's all part of the plan
to bring Wrexham FC out of administration. We are hoping to do a deal with
Railtrack to develop the site.
"It's still early days at the moment but it forms part of the jigsaw that will
help get Wrexham out of administration. It will likely involve a mixture of
offices and accommodation.
"We have not got to the stage yet where we know what the development would be,
we are just in negotiations at the moment, but the developers are a company with
the best interests of the club at heart.
"This would not involve a move of the football stadium. We're going ahead with
the plans regardless of what happens with the court case because if we waited
till the club came out of administration it wouldn't give us a lot of time to
get things sorted."
Wrexham supporter James Sherwood believes the deal could be beneficial for the
club. He said: "If this firm is associated with Mr Dickens and Mr Moss you've
got to assume they're a company with the best interests of the club in their
hearts.
"If it will help the club in the long run and aid it to comes out of
administration then it can only be a good plan."
