Smith fearful as injuries strike

Wrexham boss Denis Smith fears a lack of players could undermine their bid to bounce back from League Two.

The Dragons are only allowed a 20-man squad because they are still in the hands of administrators.

But Denis Lawrence and Mark Jones got knocks in Saturday's 2-1 win at Glentoran, while Lee McEvilly and John Walters were also injured pre-season.

"I need to add a couple of players, I've got 18 but we've picked up a couple of injuries," Smith said.

"We're a bit short of numbers, so if I can get a striker and a defender before next Saturday then I'll be happy."

Wrexham begin the league season at home to Boston on Saturday, and despite the injuries Smith is happy with the Dragons' form during pre-season.

Wrexham rounded off their tour of Ireland with another good performance over Irish Premier League champions Glentoran.

"I would have preferred 2-0, but it was a comfortable performance and a very pleasing performance," Smith added
