Denis SmithDENIS SMITH can't wait for the FA Cup.

Wrexham travel to Port Vale on Friday evening for their first round encounter and Reds' boss Smith is hoping to see his side make progress in the competition.

"I always look forward to the FA Cup because it is a brilliant competition," Smith said today. "I hope we can go a decent distance even though it is not the best of draws for us.

"But it is a one-off game and we know what is at stake. It was a bad day all round when we lost in the second round at Scunthorpe last season because it was the day we went into administration.

"You get fairytales every year and I hope it will be us this season. But I have beaten Arsenal and drawn with Liverpool when I managed York City - and also lost to a non-league side. But that's why it is such a good competition.

"Port Vale is only up the road and we should have a good following up there."

Ex-Wrexham striker Lee Trundle is still football's top marksman after his hat-trick took his tally to 14 for the season.

But Swansea manager Kenny Jackett says star striker has yet to reach his full potential.

Jacket said: "He's running ability is getting better. He's getting fitter.

"He's taken on board some of things we've told him about looking after himself and it's starting to show.

"His fitness is starting to promote his ability now."
