Row over derby date

31 December 2005

Frozen PitchTHE Football League and Cheshire Police are on a collision course over a new date for Wrexham's derby game at Chester City.

The League Two fixture - given a noon kick-off on police orders - was postponed last Wednesday because of a frozen pitch.

Chester and Wrexham yesterday agreed to reschedule the game for Tuesday, April 25, but the Football League said they wanted the rearranged match to go ahead in January and suggested the 24th.

Cheshire police have rejected the League's proposal because of their objection to policing the match in the dark.

Both clubs are agreeable to whichever dates are proposed, but the problem must now be resolved between the Football League and Cheshire constabulary.
