Robin GibsonROBIN GIBSON knows what it is like to be part of an FA Cup giantkilling act, writes RICHARD WILLIAMS.

Gibson was in the Wrexham team that pulled off a 2-1 victory against Premiership outfit Middlesbrough at the third round stage in 1999, and the little right winger scored the Reds’ equaliser before Darren Ferguson grabbed the winner.

And Gibson has another chance of causing an upset when his Stafford Rangers side from the Conference make the trip to League One outfit Brighton and Hove Albion who start as big favourites in the second round clash.

A number of other former Reds are in action tomorrow with Swansea City’s Lee Trundle and defender Dennis Lawrence in the side that travel to Darlington where former Reds’ winger Neil Wainwright will be hoping he can help the Quakers spring a surprise against opponents from a higher division.

League One side Doncaster Rovers, with Steve Roberts lining up in the heart of defence, make the relatively short journey to League Two outfit Mansfield Town who will aim to make the most of home advantage.

Defender Mark McGregor also played his part in Wrexham’s famous win over Middlesbrough seven years ago but knows his League One Port Vale cannot take for granted the threat of Hereford United, who have produced giantkilling feats of their own down the years.

Wayne Brown will have a big part to play if Hereford are to reach the next round. The former Chester keeper will be up against Port Vale’s in-form striker, Leon Constantine in their clash at Edgar Street.

A quartet of ex-Chester players will be hoping to get Paul Ince’s Macclesfield in the hat for the next round. After dumping League Two leaders Walsall out of the competition, The Macc Lads will fancy their chances of a home win over Hartlepool.

Kevin McIntyre, Carl Regan, Alan Navarro and John Murphy, who is on loan from Blackpool until January, will all feature. Former Wrexham defender Jimmy McNulty is also in the Macclesfield squad.

Striker Andy Morrell has been among the goals for new club Blackpool who are away at MK Dons and two players who turned out for Wrexham last season, Paul Warhurst and Andy Holt, will cross each other’s paths tomorrow.

Warhurst’s Barnet will hope to make the most of home advantage and send Holt’s Northampton, who play one division higher than the Bees, crashing out of the competition.
