Lee RichardsonWREXHAM boss Brian Carey could only apologise after watching his side get taken apart by Chesterfield.

Two goals from Jack Lester and a strike apiece from Adam Rooney and Peter Leven did the damage as the Dragons fell to a defeat made even more disappointing after victory over Lincoln on Saturday.

Carey said: "I can only apologise to all the people who paid money to be here.

"I thought we'd turned the corner after the Lincoln result. Before the match I asked the players to push forward.

"But tonight we've taken a few steps back.

"You put players on the pitch and they should be better at their jobs. Tonight, they were second best all round."

A minority of fans again called for Carey's head after the final whistle and the Irish boss added: "I can understand the reaction. "At the end of the day the buck stops with me. I can understand the frustrations of the fans - I wouldn't want to be sitting here watching that."

Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson believed the 4-0 scoreline could have been even greater.

He said: "I think we were more than four goals better than them tonight, and that's no disrespect to Wrexham.

"If we are being greedy, then we should have had more. But I've been on the opposite end of results like these and I really feel for Brian.

"I think they were bewildered by three goals in nine minutes and I'm glad young Adam Rooney got one.

"But however good we were, it's only three points and we've got to start thinking about Saturday now."
