LLEWELLYN today spoke of the importance of getting something out of tomorrow's
match against fellow strugglers Dagenham and Redbridge at Victoria Road (3pm).
Wrexham end a run of three consecutive away games with a trip to league new boys
Dagenham, and will be aiming to complete the triple header unbeaten.
Having drawn 0-0 last weekend against Rochdale, Wrexham ran out 1-0 winners at
Bury in midweek, a result which took them out of the drop zone and up to 20th in
the League Two table.
Tomorrow's opponents Dagenham have themselves slipped into the drop zone having
not won in the league for nine matches, and Llewellyn said it was vital to leave
London Road with at least a point to stay ahead of teams below the Reds.
"The last week has been positive so we are confident going into tomorrow's
match," said Llewellyn today.
"It is a big game because it is against a team who are around us in the table.
Three points would be massive and another step in the right direction.
"There are a few teams below us and if we can put a bit of distance between us
and them, there will be less pressure on us.
"If we win, this week will probably have been more than we hoped for. It would
be a big three points, and then we have got some games coming up at home.
"It would be nice to start winning in front of our own fans, and take what we
have this week into those matches, to keep moving in the right direction."
Wrexham are unbeaten in their last four league games – they lost at Peterborough
in that time in the FA Cup – and have kept three clean sheets.
And Wales international Llewellyn said that a mean defence is an excellent
platform as the Reds look to continue their climb up the table.
"We are unbeaten in our last four league matches and have kept three clean
sheets in that time," said Llewellyn. "Things are looking better there.
"Goals win games but if you are not letting them in, you can build on that, and
that is where confidence starts.
"We had a bit of a blip against Peterborough in the cup but that sometimes
happens against the good teams.
"We are looking hard to beat and more organised, so we are confident for the
remainder of the season.
"Confidence is coming back. It was down a few weeks ago but the lads are playing
with a bit more belief now."
Manager Brian Little, who has steered Wrexham to a three-game unbeaten run since
taking charge, has deployed Llewellyn in midfield alongside Neil Roberts, who is
also more accustomed to playing in an attacking role.
Robbie Garrett made up the three-man midfield at Bury in the absence of on-loan
Sam Aiston who was ill.
And the versatile Llewellyn, who can also operate as a winger, is pleased with
how things are working out for the new-look midfield: "I think it helps having
played as a partnership up front," he added.
"There is a good understanding there and we have taken that into the midfield.
"It seems to be working and I hope it continues. As a three, with Sam or Robbie,
we seem to have the right balance.
"As each game goes, we are learning as we play.
