Mark JonesMARK JONES has pulled out of the Wales squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers in Cyprus and San Marino.

The Wrexham midfielder took a kick to the knee late in Friday's 2-0 win at Accrington Stanley and was immediately substituted, although he was able to join up with the Wales squad at Cardiff earlier this week.

However, Jones, who has had knee problems in the past, withdrew from the squad after training yesterday when there was a reaction to the injury.

It is yet another blow for Jones, who made his Wales senior debut as a second half substitute against Leichtenstein at The Racecourse last November but has been pulled out of other international squads because of injury.

It remains to be seen whether Jones will feature for Wrexham in Saturday's match against Macclesfield.

Reds' boss Brian Carey was already resigned to being without Jones and centre-back Steve Evans who did fly out to Cyprus today.

But Carey said it was a chance for replacements to show what they could do.

"We did not want to get too far behind in terms of games so we wanted to play Macclesfield," said Carey today. "It is unfortunate we could be without them both but we have to cope, and we will cope.

"Both Steve and Mark played in the last game so it is chance for somebody else to come in and hopefully take their opportunity."

Evans was a second half substitute at Accrington when he replaced Danny Williams who limped off with an ankle injury.

But Williams is recovering well and hopes to be available to face Macclesfield, along with left-back Neil Taylor (calf) who withdrew from the Wales under 19 squad.

Meanwhile, brothers Mike and Marc Williams, and Silvio Spann, will make their comebacks from injury when Wrexham reserves face Chester in tonight's mini-derby at The Deva Stadium, and they will be joined by Michael Jones, Wes Baynes, Levi Mackin, Matty Done, Josh Johnson and Eifion Williams.

Gareth Evans' loan spell at Northwich Victoria ends on Saturday and is not likely to be renewed.

Evans was sent-off in his first outing for the Vics, who have since changed managers, and then picked up an ankle injury training with Wrexham.

Head coach Steve Weaver said: "It has been a poor time for Northwich, and it has not been an ideal month for Gareth, getting sent off and then injured. He could have done with playing six or seven games, and things have not gone as we hoped for him."
