Time to find the finishing touch

CAREY wants more players to weigh in with their share of goals.
Wrexham make the trip to Macclesfield tomorrow having seen just three players –
all strikers – find the back of the net this season.
Neil Roberts and Michael Proctor have both scored three times while Marc
Williams has struck twice.
The Reds are the lowest scorers in the division with just seven goals in nine
League Two matches, although they have played a game less than all but one of
the sides around them.
And although delighted his strikers are scoring, manager Carey said it was
important that there were contributions from other players.
"It's good the strikers have been scoring, it's great for their confidence, but
everybody needs to contribute," said Carey today.
"The team last week, we had Neil Roberts, Michael Proctor and Chris Llewellyn
who can all get their share of goals – but we need goals from everywhere.
"I hope we become more of a threat from set pieces. We have been working on that
and need to make them count. It is equally important that everybody
contributes."
Third from bottom Wrexham made up ground on the sides above them when they beat
Accrington Stanley 2-0 last Friday, and Macclesfield, 18th in the table, are
just one point above Wrexham having played a game more.
Carey is hoping to build on victory at Accrington, the Reds' first away win this
season, with a similar performance: "There is no point doing it for just one
game," said Carey.
"What we did against Accrington we
have to do against Macclesfield. We need the same approach, same attitude, and
same manner of the performance, and hopefully the same result.
"I think it was the most consistent 90 minutes this season."
Wrexham will be without defender Steve Evans who is away on international duty
with Wales; while midfielder Mark Jones, who withdrew from John Toshack's squad
earlier this week, is a doubt.
Jones felt some discomfort to his knee while training with Wales after
sustaining the injury at Accrington.
And Carey will assess the fitness of Danny Williams, who has taken over a
defensive role in recent weeks but was forced off at half-time on Friday with an
ankle injury. But left-back Neil Taylor has trained this week after overcoming a
calf problem.
The good news for Carey is that Silvio Spann and Mike Williams made their
comebacks from injury in the reserves' 0-0 draw with Chester on Wednesday and
are available again along with Eifion Williams who made a brief substitute
appearance at Accrington on his comeback.
Ryan Valentine and Marc Williams did not play for the reserves in midweek but
have returned to training, and Carey is delighted to have more options.
"They are all available and in contention so the injury situation is improving,"
added Carey. "It is great to have a bigger squad to choose from, though Steve is
away and there are couple who we will have to see how they are."
