A
VERY disappointed Wrexham manager Brian Little went close to accusing his
players of lacking the spirit for a relegation battle following yesterday’s 2-0
defeat at the hands of Rochdale.
The Dragons boss admitted he could not wait for the January transfer window to
open next week in order to bring in one or two new faces, following a fourth
straight defeat that condemned the club to bottom place in the Football League.
Admitting that the visitors had thoroughly deserved their victory, Little said:
“When you are the bottom of the table when something goes wrong then you are in
danger of it being a hard day’s work.
“And today was an example of that. At 1-0 down I felt we had a couple of good
chances but some people seemed to have the feeling it just wasn’t going to
happen today.
“We need to be stronger, we need to be more resilient and we need to be braver
than we are at the moment. There’s a big dark cloud hanging around this place
and I believe people are feeling sorry for themselves.
“I think that’s shocking personally. It’s coming up to January and I’ve got to
try and bring in some people to help the players here.”
The Racecourse boss confessed he was running out of ideas to inject any measure
of confidence into the players he inherited from Brian Carey last month.
“We knew going into the game that they were a good side and we picked a team to
try and be adventurous, to try and get at them and win the game,” he added.
“But they were better than us, that’s the bottom line. Was it a poor
performance? There’s a lot of things I would like to be better – our basic
defending was poor, we gave free-kicks away, we could have scored two or three
goals in the first half at 1-0 down.
“I was disappointed, yes, but I can’t give up, I won’t give up and we have a job
to do. I’ve learned an awful lot in the last two weeks when we’ve had four bad
results and we’ll try to get it right.”
