Barnsley PA & Racist Discriminatory chanting

Multiple occasions - Not really, he wrote 'Up the Ra' on social media on two messages as a 16 year old.

Sincere and consistent in his beliefs - You'd think that's quite an important distinction for those who are bothered about it. You get the impression that Declan Rice was probably ignorant of the implications of what he was saying. He was most probably parroting what he'd heard team mates sing/say. Crucially, he apologised when it came to light 4 years later and hasn't done anything that they would see as controversial since.

Northern Ireland - I'd be surprised if many of those who object to McClean realise that he was born in Derry due to him playing for ROI. If I'm honest, I'd be surprised if many of them can distinguish between NI and ROI.

While I don't agree with either of them getting stick, I don't think there are double standards at play here. They're two very different cases.
Fair points. As an Irish republican I fully understand what James stands for but also believe he has made some ill judged statements over the years. However what the ignorant English fans fail to understand is that he thrives off their boringly repetitive stick.

I can't stand the royal family but hate that chant
Yeah no idea why we sing that. I'd imagine the majority of fans at other clubs couldn't give a toss about the royals. It's not exactly gonna wind the opposition up and/or spur our players on.

Why do we sing it?

By "we" I mean those that do sing it, not all of us!

Yeah there's a few who hate McClean in our fanbase for being McClean. Unfortunately not much is done about that abuse regardless of which fanbase it comes from.
Really?

Give over. That's a similar leap to that made by those who suggest that all football fans are hooligans.

He winds up the right wing element because of his poppy stance, but most rational thinking football fans can completely understand his reasoning and respect his right to abstain from wearing one.

If it was about him being an Irishman, the 100s of other Irish players who have played in England would also have suffered similar levels of abuse everywhere they went. Did players like Roy Keane, Niall Quinn or, best of all, Paddy Madden ever receive abuse for being Irish?

At Edgeley Park this season, any abuse he received came from individuals or small pockets of numskulls. Early in the game, he tried to rile up the Cheadle End and was largely ignored.

To refer to it as 'England's shame' is just a bit melodramatic.
He's from Northern Ireland, Derry in fact. Completely different to those players you mentioned. Derry was mercilessly ill treated by the British Army for many years (not just the troubles, years before that) without the exposure Belfast had. He has every right to take a stance. I wish he would refrain from the goading, but he's abused everywhere he goes. Don't think his ADHD helps much!

I think planting bombs that kill innocent citizens like 12 year old Tim Parry, would class them as terrorist organsation. You may worship them, but decent people don't.

The fact that you want to try and protect them that committed those atrocities tells me all I need to know ...

You don't follow football in the slightest, you are nothing but a provocateur trying to cause trouble.

if you're not are are indeed an IRA supporting c**t then DM me
Do you want to read up on the Black and Tans? Bloody Sunday? Might put your ignorance into perspective. And no, I'm not a PIRA supporter.

The in a box chant is poor. To be fair, it's only sung by a minority and most are the young pups of our support, still doesn't excuse it.

As others have said, it doesn't even get a reaction from the opposition fans and I'm not even sure the point in singing it. Hymns and Arias gets more of a reaction.
