James Jones Contract Extended

Am I the only one who doesn't think this is good? We need to make space in the squad next summer and just say we get promoted this year and with our budget we should.

I'm sorry James Jones is not good enough. A few weeks ago he was frozen out for me he's not as good as O' Connor, Lee, Evans and Davies. Every year you need to improve your squad and players who are squad players need to move on.

I have no doubt in a few weeks he will be out of the team and this decision will look silly.

Parky often rotates the midfield, over the last 12-18 months, only Elliott Lee has been picked pretty much week in week out. The rest are all in and out of the team in bursts of 5-6 games at a time, depending on form and fitness.

You can't say Jones was 'frozen out' without saying the same about every other midfielder we have.

Bickerstaff, Hosannah, McFazdean, Lainton and Dalby will all no doubt be moved on next summer, there will be plenty of room for improving the squad. Think Hayden, Tozer and Young will be out of contract too. Expect Hayden to be extended and Tozer/Young - will probably depend on what league we're in.

Without wanting to come across as a bit Annie Wilkes I like JJ as he improves the players around him - witness Barnett last year, and George Evans in the last few games.

Its his selfless running to fill in that allows Barnett to make those mazy runs down the right, he's the one who presses the ball when we have Dalby or Palmer up front, and he's the one to intercept / break up play and pop it off to Evans as we saw v Crawley. He can be a bit inconsistent at times in terms of his passing but he's playing really well since he came back in.

you can't compare him to O'Conner, Lee , or Davies .. he's a completely different player ... in fact actually all of those are completely different players .

right now , for me Jones and Evans would be the first names on the team sheet

... as I said , JJ is probably our most under rated player. The years he had coming through the excellent Crewe youth system are really there for all to see. He does the simple stuff incredibly well , check your shoulder , back foot receive , open up and play the simple ball - he does all the simple stuff well ( probably better than anyone on the team - possibly with the exception of Evans ) ...add to that his almost inhuman work rate , he's an outstanding player - I never understand why more people don't see this ( well I do understand and I admire their loyalty to other players, but they need to get over that )

and aside from all the things he brings to the pitch ( of which there are many) , he helps drive the overall fitness of the side - if you want to be the fittest player in the squad , good luck , because you'll have to get past James.

This really is good news

100% this !

We have other options there who perform well themselves , but they don't lift the performances of others - Football is a team game , James Jones makes his team mates perform better & this is why this is great news

You need to look the future and players like Tozer, James Jones, Young, Howard etc need replacing this summer with players who are better than we got now.

So the players starting now effectively become your subs and squad players that's how Luton, Swansea did it successfully.

James Jones has two good games and everyone's opinion change, he wasn't even regular in NL and next season he could be playing L1 football.

Good news.

I’d imagine in midfield it will be Young and Cannon at risk.

Can't argue with your list (with one exception) and there's a reason why half of our squad are out of contract next summer. Every single player in the squad can be upgraded if we splash the cash and are able to persuade them to play for Wrexham.

I'd say missing just 3 games last season in the league was pretty regular to be fair.

He was playing League one football before he came to us....
