I must be missing something here....

Half a mill for someone who brings 'a goal or two'??

not even thinkin about money,if you want better players they cost,it may not work out and he dont score, but hes a 100% effort gives his all,we got so lucky when SPM turned up and hes got everythin, but we paid no fee, Armstrong similar profile to SPM could be the same but cost half a mil, chicken feed

I imagine the deal will go through as soon as the transfer window opens as the club will be keen to “do the right thing”

I get what you're saying , but we already have a 100% effort player in Bickerstaff . and when we'd signed Mullin he'd been the top scorer in League 2 - Armstrong is nowhere near his level .

I'm not writing him off & I suspect the 2 clubs will have come to some kind of arrangement , but personally I'd have been looking ever since the window closed to see if there was a better option & certainly wouldn't be paying the same money if we did go for him in Jan - not because of his lack of goals, but because he has less time left on his contract

Then we're idiots. You don't spend half a million at this level just for some good PR.

You could argue it was worth doing in summer as Mullin was out and we were desperately short up front. This is no longer the case.

If we’re still set on buying him and I’m not against the idea still we’re not paying £500k for him. Either Harrogate will drop the price or we’ll walk away, pendulums shifted as clubs know we’re not desperate for strikers anymore.

If you watch videos of Armstrong every goal he scores is inside the 6 yard box and you could argue that we lack that 'Gary Lineker' type of player. Tranmere away was a case in point where I lost count of the number of times we were missing a fox in the box type of forward.

If he has a natural ability to be in the right place at the right time he would add something but its an awful lot of money to pay. Can't help feeling that we can do better.

No business of our size would spend £500k to “do the right thing”. The right thing is to move on to looking at strikers with pace who aren’t bog standard scorers (not even that this season) in League 2.

That's not a natural ability - it's down to hard work - Lineker says this often - he used to make 50 or 60 runs every game ( that nobody noticed ) and most of the time the ball would go nowhere near him , then the one or 2 times it felt him people would say ' oh he's such a lucky player the ball just seems to fall to him all the time ' - it didn't he just worked his arse off to look like he was just lucky to be in the right place. There's some anticipation of course, but that also in part comes down to work put in on the training filed with the rest of the team so you and they know where the ball is going to go

... or as Garry Player once famously said when asked about why he was so lucky ' it's funny , the harder I work and the more I practice , the luckier I get'

I'm not convinced with Armstrong - I'm certainly not writing him off - but given he wasn't our first choice in the summer ,I'd be looking to see if we can get someone more like our first choice come January - I'd be looking to have those conversations with clubs and players now ( I'm sure we already are )

We can sign better next summer

It definitely felt like we were over a barrel with the transfer fee so I was happy it didn’t go through. Felt like the episode of Sunderland till I die when they signed will grigg on deadline day.
