Steven Fletcher

Quite simply, there’s nobody better.

I thought it was a mistake giving him a new contract and PP has shown again how he knows a lot more about football than me! That substitute role is really important and he is perfect for it.
Given his ability, the amount of subs you can have and money not being an issue, I thought it was a no brainer as has been proven. But I admire those who put their hand up and admit they got it wrong.

quite simply, with the funds we’ve got we shouldn’t be relying on a striker his age. No doubt he’s absolutely class at his age & he’s been an absolute joy to watch in a red shirt. Ooozes class every time he’s on the pitch.

Just a shame it’s often to save us after a poor showing from strikers he comes on for.

I could take issue with a couple of the points you state as fact but just to keep it focussed your final point about “saving us“ is only true if we enter the last 10minutes at parity.

Against Barnsley the hot takes on here were all about how the defence cost us as we went 2-0 for once in forever but today we kept it tight (again - with two wingbacks who were rusty as and Brunt injured) and the fact we just don’t concede in many games is assumed.

Watch back Swansea game from Saturday. The tactical genius once again building a side that ships goals purely from their own ineptitude.

Parkyball might not be glorious to watch when games become attritional but we, more often or not, have more quality than the teams we play to nick the points.

Credit where it is due. For all the profile we have football is a simple game played where success is based on a very simple ratio of goals for vs goals against and if the difference in multiple games is a tight defence and one moment of quality from Rathbone and Fletcher then that is the difference that matters.
