Wrexham Sloppy lost 2-1

Talk about broad brush strokes… again, as I mentioned earlier, there’s a difference between being annoyed at a loss and making ridiculous statements like this team aren’t good enough.

As for staying other people aren’t a fan…a bit dramatic for my liking.

Might be worth a re-read before you reply 👍
Last night wasn't good enough.

I see nothing OTT about that statement.

Get a grip.

Apparently playing poorly and getting beat by one of your main rivals isnt anything to get overly upset about.

Thats not even mentioning how poor our away form is and has been for some time.

Two home games coming up now before a run of 8 away games in the following 11. Given our away form this season it could be a very tough period we are about to endure.

Also, it’s one game in a period of our history that has seen unprecedented success. People need to get a grip, including yourself apparently.
It’s not just one game though is it. If we’d played well and won all our previous away games then I’m sure the reaction on here would be very different but this is just the latest in a long line of inexplicably poor away performances.

I have some very level-headed mates who never message me after a loss, who messaged me last night furious with what they’d seen, and they’ve seen plenty of dross over the years.

Losing is one thing, losing so humiliatingly to a bitter rival who sit in the relegation zone needs calling out.

But that striker isn't here yet so Palmer is all we have and currently has to play.
O'Connell was the one who cost us at Barnsley and last night. Not Palmer. If he starts next week then Scarr should put a transer request in. O'Connor also needs dropping while we're at it. Those two are making an out of form Cleworth look like prime John Terry.
Palmer overall has done a sterling job for us over the years. He doesn't score many, but his grasp of Parkyball is as good as anyone we have currently and he does have an impact on the flow of the game. Added to that, he's robust and not injured every five minutes.

We will be a much weaker side without Palmer in it, unless Parky has someone better to replace him with, and I doubt that.

My prediction for this transfer window is that none of our problems get solved and we end up losing what little we had propping this lumbering system up. We'll probably end up losing two strikers, signing 7 goalkeepers and a Lurch lookalike with clubfoot to replace Palmer. Could be a blessing in disguise though if Parky loses the few elements dragging the 3-5-2 hoofball show along and we get made a show of. He'll be forced to reevaluate his system or consider his position if he's still determined to flog a dead horse. We're not in a position to get relegated whatever happens now, so as I said a while back, it's better we get shown up here than go up through luck and get made fools of in the Championship.

There are hardly any elements of this system and squad that would survive in the Championship. Id fancy three quarters of the teams in this league to stand a chance of not being relegated if they went up, even a few at the bottom of this league, but there's no way we don't get relegated playing Parkyhoof with these players if we go up. Either he changes the system and gets the most out of what he has, or he brings in far better players who can overcome the handicap of this style of 3-5-2 hoofball.

We never learn anyhing from our losses. Parky is determined to put a square peg in a round hole if it's the last thing he does.

100% agree with all of that.

That’s why I think more time to work on organically growing at this level will serve us well for the longer term

Some good points, whether R&R will be so patient because of everything which is riding on the B2B2B promotion is unlikely.

Despite all the angst we are not as bad as many are saying but, equally, we are not as good as many foolishly believed. The question is can we rebound and, if so, how?

PP has done remarkably well to get us here, but that was mostly achieved by bringing in players from a higher standard. His basic ‘kick and rush’ tactics worked against lesser teams but, as we saw last night, even struggling EFL1 teams are capable of either holding us or defeating us, especially when well motivated. Currently, we are winning most games by a single goal margin, which can so easily disappear or be trumped!

Some myopic folk are now putting the blame on Matty James for ‘slowing the game down’ and demanding the return of Dobson. I have nothing against Dobson, he brings masses of energy to the game but he’s clearly not fully fit, hence one reason why he hasn’t been starting.

EOC has been an accident waiting to happen all season. Yes, he sprays Parky’s long-balls when given time and space, and is strong in the air. But he’s too slow and struggles against pace. If there is a positive from last night, surely even PP wouldn’t select him against the nippy Birmingham lads. Surely not!

It’s been obvious Palmer and Mullin have struggled. The latter because of serious injury and major ops; the former has faded the last 2 seasons. Having to start Fletcher and Lee tells you much, but not all. James and Rathbone are more than good enough in midfield but we need an improvement alongside them. All this nonsense about new signings to push X, Y and Z is pure tosh! We need better players but, more fundamentally, e need better coaching and development.

Which brings us back to PP and R&R’s loyalty to him. Personally, I don’t think there is any disloyalty in saying, “Thanks Parky, you’ve done all we wanted and more. But, now we are here, we need to execute Part 2 of the Plan.”

That cannot be until the summer at the earliest, so any tweaks will be minimal but won’t be cheap if they are to be effective. That’s my hope!

Whilst I'm angry and fed up after last night I'm also mindful we went through a similar if not worse January exactly a year ago and somehow Parky turned it around to finish with all those wins to clinch automatic promotion. Can he do it again ?

I remember this place was absolutely fuming a year ago and we were saying very similar things to now. Over to you PP

Again, not what I was calling out - there’s a distinct difference between not being happy with a single performance and making ridiculous statements (not by you, that I’ve read, but you did respond) about how the team is not good enough for the level we’re at (which they clearly are).

We’re around mid table based on away games only, in our first season back in league one in how long?

Again and I’m not really sure how many times I need to say this - there is a difference between being understandably frustrated at a poor performance and making broad statements about specific players not being good enough for the level.

Great posting again from Colonel D - finger poised waiting for the final whistle!
