Wrexham v Barry + Adran matchday 10

Sunday's Adran trophy semi final has been postponed due to a frozen 3g pitch. The fixture will now be on Sunday January 19 and a new date will be needed for the Aberystwyth Town game.

Sorry for this random one : I've been wondering : Although I don't watch women's football at all these days, when I do, it has struck me how poor the goalkeeping can be, generally speaking. (I'm convinced they should look at bringing in more netball players for the goalkeeping position, but that's another debate)

Anyway, the average height of a top male keeper is 6'2 compared to 5'8 for female keepers. That's a big difference.

Should there be a debate on possibly changing the size of the goal posts?

Not random at all :ROFLMAO:
Many, many posts about it.
So no, we don't need another debate about goal post size.
But something makes me think you knew that already:D

I honestly didn't know. I've heard flippant remarks, but it does actually make sense.

Apologies for being presumptuous.
Of course there are pros and cons.
I'm one of those against changes, if for no other reason that it could easily make it more difficult for women amateur players to find pitches if the goal requirements are different.
I'll also note that in the 1870s, when football was growing rapidly in the UK, the average man's height was 5 ft 5 in, that's a lot smaller than the height of a goal.
Today, the average female in the UK is 5'3" - not a lot of difference.
As the women's game grows, that position will be filled by taller players.

Have you considered writing a letter to FIFA with your suggestion?

This.

Average height of starting GKs at NCAA D1 women's programs by conference:
ACC: 5’ 9½“
SEC: 5’ 9”
Big 12: 5’ 10 ¼”

Total number of keepers in D1 below 5’7” was 16 which represents only 8.3%.

Hope Solo and Alyssa Naeher are both 5'9" and seem to cover a standard goal just fine. If anything, guys like Arthur are a cheat code and the men's should be increased from today's size.

The issue isn't the size of goalkeeper it's coaching. Keepers are shorter in the women's game than the men's which means a slightly different technique to cover as much of the goal, but it doesn't necessarily mean they are worse.

The standard of professionally coached goalkeeping in the women's game has improved massively over the last five years such that there are fewer goalkeeping errors now in the WSL than in the Premier League. Part of that is because there are goalkeeper coaches who specialise working with female players and who provide the same sort of coaching, especially at a young age, that the men get.

If you watch Wrexham (for example) you're still seeing amateur players who probably haven't been through that professionalised academy system and don't get that high-level coaching so still make plenty of errors. But at higher levels you won't see those sorts of errors because they've had that level of coaching from a young age.
