Given the price of petrol and train tickets in the UK it's probably no more expensive if you book in advance. Southampton Airport is so close to the ground as well it's a great idea to do that.

There is a bar at Southampton Airport as well if you get thirsty when you arrive and loads of taxis to the ground from there, or you can walk it 25-30mins from memory through the park.
