On paper Gary Mills was the type of high profile manager you're referring to. He'd been massively successful at York, was doing well at Gateshead and we even bought him out of his contract. I remember Trabmere interviewing him at the last minute and everyone starting to panic thinking they might poach him ahead of us.
Truth is there's no formula that guarantees success. We've just made some shocking recruitment decisions that were never ever going to work. Since ricketts left it has actually been a case study in how not to recruit managers. Barrow, Hughes and bringing Keates back are laughably bad decisions.
