A big fella at right back with good pedigree - I'd be fairly happy with this.

The teams that usually win this league have 4x units across the back

Not the most exciting 1st signing but experienced and likely cheap. We do need a specialist RB and I'd like to see him play before slating him!

I think were in the minority personally, but I agree with you in thinking that Carrington is as good a right back as we'll get at this level. He's a steady eddie.

BUT he's not a wing back, so if this lad signs id imagine that it will be due to a change in style of play and formation.

That then of course could mean Carrington in midfield, which in my opinion isnt a great move.

Out of interest, for those spitting their dummy out already, which realistic right back would you get excited over?

Re: James Hurst (rumoured to join?)

DK has said several times that his recruitment will be based on personality as much as talent. If we are going to sign this lad I'm 100% certain Dean will have spoken to people he trusts about his temperament, and if it's good enough for him it's good enough for me.

Re: James Hurst (rumoured to join?)

Its a player with potential - not really made an impact with Dover.

Only 25 and at 6' 1" seems the right build for this league.

Not all the players DK signs are going to be household names at this level.

His record at Torquay is interesting. He scored 7 goals in 18 games and when he left he was their highest scorer. I'm presume he didn't do that from RB

I think the only other specialist right backs ive seen mentioned were Theo Vassel, Kevin Roberts, Kristian Green. IMO they were all good options but if this chap is versatile and helps us focus more money on the spine of the team then great, rock on :guitarist:

Re: James Hurst (rumoured to join?)

Sounds like he mostly played in midfield judging by a quick scan on Dover's forum. They suggest that he's good at keeping the ball and pretty physical but was lacking a little in fitness when he joined them.

Carrington in the team = not a great move.

I'd welcome a proper right back who can actually offer the team something attacking wise not just an at best average jack of all trades master of none who also goes missing far too often.

Re: James Hurst (rumoured to join?)

So a tall right back with good pedigree who gets forward and chips in with a few goals, also not afraid to put his foot in, fair enough his discipline needs to be addressed but could be a decent player by the sounds of it

I know youre not a fan of Carrington :D.

If we are going 442, which I think we are, then agree that we need more of an attacking outlet, and people who can get crosses in from wide areas - which has been a major problem this season.

Talented, versatile and not a midget. If it wasn't for his disciplinary record, there'd be no reason to complain at all. I think Keates is a good head to have in charge of him personally.

I hope it's true.

I don't want Carrington as a first choice but I can see him as a useful squad member as he can cover right back, left back and centre mid, also he would be someone who would not become problematic when out of the starting 11 and is probably a good influence in the dressing room

Surely not, unless its 2012 and we have bagged Jay Harris and Kyle Storer to play there.
