Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
Karl Connolly, Gary Bennett, Lee Trundle and Deryn Brace.
|
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
A real wild card entry but i just loved Emad Bounanne. He always used to give me a wave in a battered old car, and he was a bit mad, but he gave it a go, and some of his runs were just magical!
Carlos Edwards was by far the most skilful and classy player in my era. |
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
Peter Ward was a brilliant player.
You can't beat Ferguson though, he ran the team for almost a decade. Posted via mobile theme |
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
A few of my favourites are Andy Marriott, Darren Ferguson and Carlos Edwards, Dean Keates
Fergie would probably be top of that list |
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
Showing my age a bit
Clive Colbridge, Ron Barnes, Ken Barnes, Graham Whittle and Darren Ferguson |
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
Dixie McNeil and Gary Bennett for me.
|
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
Carlos Edwards - Was a class above, and his move up the leagues paid testament to that.
Lee Trundle - Goals Andy Morrell - Goals Juan Ugarte - Loved to score bagfuls away from home. Hector Sam - For some weird reason he was my favourite player, used to love the basic song aswell.... Hector Sam, Sam, Sam. Denis Lawrence - Rock at the back and was quite handy in the opposit penalty box. Plenty of others could be mentioned. I think the one thing we can all agree on is if they had all been at Wrexham at the same time we would have breezed the Leagues. |
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
Also Andy Holt at Left Back was good.
|
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
Favourites growing up were Carlos, Trundle, Fergie and Morrell. Emad Bounane up there for cult hero.

Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
top 3 are:
1. Gary Bennett 2. Darren Ferguson 3. King Karl But there are so many other greats - Ward, Carlos, Morrell, Trundle, conference favourites such as speight and keates, as well as great players from the miserable eighties - Jim Steel, Paul Comstive, David Gregory. |
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
Silvio Spann.
|
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
Big Billy Ashcroft. With his bushy red hair and beard he looked like a mountain man and had a header like a steam hammer.
He scored a headed goal at Oxford the year we just missed out on promotion that nearly ripped the net off the goal and battered about three of their defenders out of the way to get to it. |
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
Trundle for entertainment value but i loved andy holt and scott green i know they were in different positions but loved how they played the game
|
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
During my time as a supporter Johnny Schofield was the best goalie I've seen closely followed by Andy Marriott. Karl Connolly and Peter Ward outfield favourites.
|
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
Mayebi
Mark Jones in his first spell Holt Carlos Ugarte Morrell Would also add Scott green. Not the most exciting to watch but made a big impact in a short time |
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
The team of 1976/7/8 was littered with greats Shinton, Ashcroft, Whittle, Griffiths, Thomas, Gareth Davies - best Wrexham team of my memory - went to every game expecting to win easily
Eddie May ( a colossus ) and Ian Moir ( a genius on his day )
One of my favorite goals was an Ian Moir effort around 67 or 68, Oldham in the FA Cup, were 4-0 up, ended 4-2. Moir's goal was towards the Tech end, mazy dribble down the right wing, cut in and unleashed a shot from edge of penalty box. One wonders what they called the tech end before the the tech was built in early 50's. |
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
Peter Ward, Bryan Hughes, Lee Trundle and Darren Ferguson for me. There has been great players in the 25 years of watching us but these are the standout ones for me.
|
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
Since I started watching in the 1960's there is one player who stands out - a fantastic goal scoring record but an even better rapport with the fans - a pure entertainer.
When he first started we lost 4 - 0 at York City - at the final whistle ten players walked straight down the tunnel - one single player ran over to the away end by himself and applauded the travelling away support - I thought from that moment we had something special. There have of course been many great players spanning the different generations - as a kid I thought Eddie May was actually a giant - xxxxxxxx massive mountain of a man. Blessed to have watched the likes of Ashcroft, Whittle, Thomas, Jones, Mcneil..............but for me it has to be Garry Bennett. |

Young fan so favourite player we've had at the club is our now Manager for me Mr Keates. Ultimate player in that midfield, what we could do to have another player like him now! Also really liked Pogba too
|
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
Graetest players in my era were:
Billy Tunnicliffe Johnny Anderson Tommy Bannan Ronnie Hewitt Gren Jones Wyn Davies Ally McGowen Ronnie Barnes Ken Barnes Arfon Griffiths Just to mention a few. They were great characters and exceptionally good players. |
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
For those who recall him , how good was Wyn Davies when he played for Wrexham, it was a bit before my time, though I remember him for Newcastle and Wales late 60's.
Was it evident he was going to go on to better things |
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
dixie a hero for me,joey hard as nails, dave gregory turn on a sixpence and 1 we had on loan when we were shocking phil coleman turned us around, frm sheffutd i think and i think we drew them in the cup and lost ,not sure if coleman scored for us
|
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
I think Darren Ferguson is one of them, you dont realise how good he was until he had packed it in. Demanded the ball, and compeltely dictated the play.
|
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
Garry Bennett for me
|

Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
For me Bobby Shinton but Best player ever to pull on a Wrexham shirt without doubt was Arfon Griffiths and all the team he put together to get us in Div'2 which is the equivalent of the Championship now. The football now is Sunday league compared to that team.

Always thought that was John Neils team that Arfon took over at the right time. |
Re: All our yesterdays- great ex players
But Arfon put the finishing touches with Dixie,John Roberts, and Dia Davies.
|
