The club confirm the signing of Marcus Kelly, once his current deal with Forest Green Rovers expires in a few days’ time.

The 31-year-old midfielder has agreed a one-year contract, after helping the Green Devils to promotion last season.

The long-serving midfielder Kelly was released by Forest Green this summer after originally being signed by former boss David Hockaday following a trial in the summer of 2013.

He then went on to make some 125 appearances for the New Lawn club in four years, after stints with Oxford United, Kettering Town, Mansfield Town and Tamworth.

Bornin Kettering, he started out as a youngster with Rushden and Diamonds, going on to play over 150 times for the Nene Park club, making his debut against Bournemouth in 2004.

A short spell with Oxford United followed in 2009, before an extended stay with Kettering Town.

The England C international then had a season with Tamworth (2012/13) before joining Forest Green, four years ago.

When we signed Wedgbury he tweeted 'Wrexham will be some force next season'. I am glad he's going to be part of it! I've wanted us to sign him for years, he can cover a lot of positions which will be great for our small squad.

When I heard that Sam was back from injury back in the middle of a slump in form I knew we were going to get there. You can pick holes in performances day in day out but ultimately Sam is the kind of player who will lift the team with just as much pluck as skill. I also had the pleasure of assisting on group visit tours of kids to FGR and heard him talk about what it takes to be a professional footballer. And then to do a Q&A with the kids. Inspiring.

So thanks to Marcus and Sam for all you've done for FGR.

Another quality player with experience of success and appears to be a well liked person who does a lot for the clubs he's at off the field as well. Also another leader on the pitch.

What's Keates doing to us? I'm not sure I can deal with this much optimism.

Think it's also great how he isn't only putting together a team of actual footballers, but a team of adults rather than last seasons shambles.

Whilst the players we want in have to have everything on the pitch, Its also as much about a players character and how he acts off the field. You will notice this is the case across the team being built, strong commited players who are professional and have something about them, its going to be a fantastic dressing room atmosphere.
