FC Halifax Town confirms that defender and captain Kevin Roberts has departed the Shaymen, to sign for National League side Wrexham AFC.

Due to changing family circumstances and a desire to have one last opportunity of full-time football, Kevin requested the opportunity to move close to his home.

Despite a year remaining on his contract, the Board agreed to his request once agreement was reached with Wrexham over the terms of his transfer, for an undisclosed fee.

The decision was made in view of his excellent contribution and commitment to FC Halifax Town during his time since joining from Cambridge Utd. Whilst no one wanted to see Kevin leave, we have reluctantly respected his wishes on the basis of everything he has done in his time with the Shaymen. He has been a model professional and an example for any players around him.

We wish Kevin and his family all the happiness for the future and all the best with his new Club

Good news and this shows a sign of Keates I hadn't seen. He has chased signings/renewals previously and moved on quickly when he hasn't secured them. This (and Manny?) are examples of him staying patient and going back in at the right time for the right man. He's playing a blinder. If he does so with another forward signing then we're contenders.

For me we have 3 captains in the back 4. Manny isn't one but it doesn't matter.

Keates has absolutely pulled up trees, can't believe the squad he's assembled. I also cannot believe the squad Mills put together last season for virtually the same money, an absolute disgrace.

On paper ( and yes I know we play on grass ) but prob the best defensive set up I think I've seen from a Wrexham side for years possibly even on a par with the glorious jones - pejic-humes-hardy years !

Additional cover for CB too if we were to pick up injuries/suspensions

Carrington or Hurst could cover RB for a few games and move Roberts to CB

Spot on. Sounds like something else is ongoing (judging by the rumours). If it's a top striker then we will be in great shape.
