There's always one shite player we try and convince ourselves will come good. Will take a while before I buy into that with Grant. Barely noticed him today.
We simply can’t play that poorly again! It was the worst performance since the Gateshead home thrashing, masterminded by the fake manager!
I hope not , but didn’t BH have a brainfart with the formation that evening and got found out big time.
Stick to 4-3-3 , at least to start with and keep solid at the back , because B.B. ain’t no defender.

Football is all about opinions, and not everyone agrees, but I didn't see anything in Crewe to suggest they were better than us. Our change of formation gifted the goal, first half we matched them all over the park. There wasn't one player in the Crewe side that stood out, that I'd take here. (just my opinion obviously 🙂)
Akil can be the box to box midfielder as shown when Hughes encouraged him at the back end of last season. He even chipped in with a few goals.

Barton is a CDM but we haven’t seen him play in that position yet.
Akil Wright offers nothing. He’s not box to box player. We might as well play with ten men if we’re starting him this season.

Re: Crewe Reaction

I didn't think Crewe were that much better than us. The goal came when we over-committed (if someone gets a touch of the ball off of Jennings' cross which lead to the counter attack we win 1-0 instead) so it's not too heartbreaking a loss - especially given it's a friendly.

Now, the question of 4-3-3 vs. 3-4-3 is interesting, and it depends on our opposition. I wouldn't be playing 3-4-3 against a Solihull Moors-type side but it could overwhelm some of the less defensively sound teams. We have a plan B which we never seemed to have last season. It was 4-3-3 or that 4-4-2 attempt against Barrow at home last season when we got played off the park in the first half.

I thought we missed him today, mainly because Redmond was anonymous. Summers & Young are technically better than Wright but again mainly because we didnt get going up front to put them under any concerted pressure allowing Crewe's no 8 in particular to boss the midfield at times.
