Any form of effective ownership needs firm foundations . The problem with fan ownership is that you can only go as far as the number of fans you have , even with firm foundations.
Chester’s falling gates (sub 2000) meant they could no longer compete in the top half of the division, they had to cut their cloth but they didn’t do it by enough, hence their current problems.
Fortunately our gates mean we can be competitive but are extremely unlikely to ever win the league. But you can see how our likely maximum gate means that it would be very difficult to compete in League 1 , and any fall off in average gates in League 2 could put us in the sort of trouble that
Chester are in now. Ultimately, for all fan owned clubs, somewhere along the line it will end in tears.
